  • How long does flat roof waterproofing with liquid plastic last?

Our liquid plastic is resistant to UV radiation. The expected useful life was checked. When used on fully reinforced roofs, the expected service life is more than 25 years.

  • Flat roof waterproofing with liquid plastic even without fleece?

NO ! We are often asked whether it is possible to produce a flat roof seal with liquid plastic without fleece, for example to save costs and time? Very clear answer: NO! The German flat roof guidelines, DIN 18531 and the recognized technical rules of the German roofing trade clearly formulate this and prescribe it! Here is an excerpt:

  • Can flat roof renovation with liquid plastic be compared with conventional roof foils?

Conventional films consist of sheets that are welded together on the roof. The attachment to the subsurface is done either mechanically (e.g. by doweling) or by means of a load (loosely laid with gravel). At roof edges and wall connections, foils are attached with aluminum profiles, either as a clamp profile or screwed.

  • What requirements are placed on the subsurface?

The liquid plastic can be used on almost any surface that is clean, firm and dry. On porous surfaces, our liquid plastic can be applied diluted to close the pores beforehand. Suitable primers, such as PU Grund, can also be used. The individual case must be checked before processing.

  • Is this only suitable for industrial halls or also private customers?

Flat roof renovation with liquid plastic is suitable for almost any roof, regardless of whether it is a garage roof, bungalow roof, industrial hall roof, warehouse roof, production hall roof, etc.

  • How much does flat roof renovation with liquid plastic cost?

Since every roof is different in terms of its properties, properties, condition and environment, and therefore the problem and task varies, a general price cannot be reliably stated and quoted. Therefore, we evaluate and calculate each roof separately. As a customer, you have planning security with our fixed price offers. There are no additional costs than those shown in our fixed price offers!

  • How long does experience show that a foamed roof lasts?

Polyurethane foam is not UV stable. In practice, this means that the sun would slowly destroy the foam if it is not protected from UV exposure. As long as the UV protection is intact, the foam does not change.

  • Can a foamed roof be walked on?

Basically yes. A roof must be accessible for maintenance and inspection purposes. When walking, however, you should ensure that you wear footwear with soles that are as soft as possible. If, for example, a ladder is to be placed on the roof, load distribution (boards) must be provided under the ladder.

  • What influence does foaming have on the statics?

Usually none. When foaming roofs, the weight per m² is increased by around 2.5 kg. Since the foam is essentially self-supporting, the statics are improved in many cases. A composite element is produced with the foaming.

  • Is the polyurethane foam waterproof?

Yes. The finished foam is waterproof but has excellent diffusivity (breathable). When processed correctly, the maximum water absorption is 5% by volume.

  • Is polyurethane foam hazardous waste in the event of demolition?

No. Polyurethane foam is made from 2 components. After the two components have reacted, the foam is chemically completely neutral. When disposing of waste, it is treated like normal household waste.

  • Does polyurethane foam contain substances that are hazardous to health?

No. The finished foam is chemically completely neutral. It does not contain any substances that can leak out over time and cause health problems. By the way: You can find polyurethane in various forms in everyday use everywhere: as "foam rubber", in vehicle construction (dashboards, seats, upholstery, etc.), in medicine (prostheses), industrial flooring, insulation in refrigerators and freezers, etc.

  • What should the surface be like?

The surface to be foamed should be clean (usually swept clean), firm (no loose parts) and dry. Dry is the most important point because the liquid sprayed reaction mixture would react with moisture.

  • How is foaming carried out?

Relatively complex machine technology is required for processing. The foam systems we process are always two-component. The two raw materials are precisely dosed via the processing machine, heated and fed to the spray gun via 100 m long hose lines.

  • What layer thickness is required?

The layer thickness depends on the desired result. If the goal is reliable sealing and thermal insulation does not play a role, a coating thickness of 10 to 20 mm is sufficient; for thermal insulation, the minimum thickness is 35 mm. Depending on requirements, any desired layer thickness can be applied. If necessary, the requirements of the EnEV (Energy Saving Ordinance) are of course met with this approved insulation material.

  • What preparations need to be made on site?

The builder must ensure that there is enough electricity available: 380V/32A. In addition, the building owner must ensure that no vehicles are parked in the immediate area during the foaming work. Further on-site services will be agreed upon with the client based on the order.

  • Why is my roofer warning me about roof foaming?

There are various reasons for this. It is certainly true that there are foamed roofs that are really not okay. Either the processor worked in an unqualified manner or the roof is still coated with conventional UV protection and it has not been maintained. This often happens when the property has changed hands, for example, and the new owner was unaware of the maintenance required. However, the reason is often that the owner did not see the need for a recoating because his roof was still tight, despite the poor condition of the UV protective coating.

  • What does “roof-sealing thermal insulation” mean?

Here, the sprayed polyurethane foam not only serves as thermal insulation but also serves as a roof seal. The big advantage of this process is that the roof surface is thermally calmed to a considerable extent thanks to the external insulation. High levels of heating caused by the sun and sudden rain lead to temperature drops that no longer affect the roof. The polyurethane foam absorbs the fluctuations.

  • Do birds peck holes in the foamed roof?

In some regions, and this is very different in Germany, the issue of “bird pecking” is actually a problem. On the one hand, the top layer should be as elastic as possible, but on the other hand, it should also be hard enough to counteract mechanical damage, including bird pecking. If there is a risk of bird pecking, we offer to sprinkle suitable slate chippings into the still liquid UV top layer. This is blown evenly into the highly sticky liquid plastic layer using modified sandblasting blowers. The individual particles of slate chippings stick intensively to the coating and form a hard top layer that is unassailable by birds. Visually good looks and long-lasting UV protection are pleasant side effects. It is also possible to embed a fleece in the still liquid UV protection and then coat it until it is completely saturated. This creates an additional seal in the form of a film on the foam layer.

  • How much does a foamed roof cost?

Since every roof is different, the problem and task varies and the environment to be taken into account is different, a general price cannot really be given. We have therefore started to evaluate and calculate each roof individually. As a customer, you have planning security with our fixed price offer. There are no additional costs other than those shown in our offers!
